About Us

Extreme sports, adventure, religion, or distinct cultural practices, human beings relate with mountains in a myriad of ways. In a world whose character and landscapes are rapidly changing, our relationship with mountains is only getting broader, subtler, and more intricate. The growing diversity and complexity of this relationship is what Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) seeks to explore.

kimff docs labs

Kimff is excited to begin taking submissions for documentary projects for our new Doc Labs - a consultancy established to support filmmakers with producing, editing and story skills. With support from various donors over the years, Kimff has nurtured emerging Nepali filmmakers by showcasing their works at its annual film festival. And now with the launch of Kimff Doc Labs, we hope to offer much needed producing, editing and story consulting to Nepali filmmakers to not only enhance their work but also to help launch their projects to a wider international audience. Kimff has already guided two opening films Sunakali and Bagyale Bachekaharu – both of which have gone on to win awards at Kimff and at film festivals around the world. The Kimff Doc Labs is open to projects in two categories: 1. Full length documentaries by Nepali filmmakers which have reached the post-production phase with rough cuts which are no more than 2 hours in length and have English subtitling and a complete script in English to work with.

2. Films that are in the production phase and filmmakers who may not yet have a rough cut but need some guidance to create a rough cut or move their projects forward meaningfully. Please submit your work in progress as a link or a media file, along with your script in a word document and a brief description of what you envision your project to become. Once projects are short-listed, we will contact you for an interview before making our final selections. If your project is selected for the Kimff Doc Labs, we will be charging a fee on a sliding scale based on the amount of work that needs to be done. We will begin accepting applications Friday, February 19, 2016 and close on Thursday, April 8th, 2016. To submit a project or if you have any queries, please contact info@kimff.org
