Q. When is the entry form available?

KIMFF calls for entries on mid-April every year. One can get access to downloadable and online entry form, and regulation at our webpage. You can also submit online entry form for your film once we call for entries.

 

Q. How many countries\\\' films have been submitted to KIMFF?

Till October 2012, KIMFF has received entries representing 94 countries. Last three year\\\'s data shows that we receive entries from more than 45 countries every year. More specifically, KIMFF 2010 and 2012 received entries representing 62 countries and 61 countries respectively. From this, it can be said that KIMFF has been able to draw attention of filmmakers and intellectuals from around the globe.

Q. Can we submit shorts and or features?

We do accept both shorts and features. There has been no restriction made for the films to participate in KIMFF. From our festival archives, it is obvious that we have screened both.

Q. Who judges the best films of KIMFF?

Every year KIMFF appoints three member International Jury to judge the best film of KIMFF. Juries having their background in filmmaking  are selected.

Q. What are the awards in KIMFF?

KIMFF divides film in three sections:
1. International Competition
2. Non Competitive and
3. Nepal Panorama

Three best films from International Competition are awarded with citation, memorabilia and cash prizes of USD 1500, USD 1000 and USD 500.
The best film from Nepal Panorama is provided with the cash prize of NRs. 50,000 and citation.
All the films are eligible for audience award. The award is determined by the votes of viewers. Audience award comprises of citation and mountain trophy coated with metal.

Q. Is there any prize for short films?

Till the tenth edition (KIMFF 2012), we have not made any separate category/ prize for short films. However, short films are eligible for Audience award.

Q. When is the screening schedule available?

After the selection list is out by late October, we invite filmmakers to represent their films during the festival. After confirming their arrival and departure date, we do fix the screening schedule as suitable to them. Thus, screening schedule is published  by third week of November.

Q. Does KIMFF return the screening copy?

KIMFF returns the screening copies of the film. After the completion of festival, KIMFF sends email in order to confirm the delivery address. After confirming the address, KIMFF couriers the screening copies.
If interested, one can also donate the screening copy to KIMFF\\\'s archive.

Q. What is Nepal Panorama?

In order to showcase and promote young Nepali filmmakers KIMFF has created a special section Nepal Panorama whereby films selected from Nepali entries are screened. The best of the selection gets a cash prize sponsored by Film Development Board Nepal. 
After the entries are received, Selection Panel members go through all the films. The selection members separate the Nepali film whether to keep in International Competition or Nepal Panorama section. The films with better quality are placed under International Competition and rest of the selected Nepali films are screened under Nepal Panorama.

Q. Does KIMFF sponsor the travelling and accomodation cost during the festival?

As KIMFF is organized by non profit organization, we do not have sufficient funds to sponsor the travelling cost of the filmmakers. But, KIMFF can assist the filmmakers by providing them a letter to find the sponsor for their travel. However, KIMFF provides the filmmaker with the accommodation facilities for five nights and six days during the festival period.

Q. Can I present my film during the festival?

If your film gets selected, you are officially invited to attend the festival and respond the audience queries during post screening interaction program.

Q. What should be the format of screening copy?

We require Mini DV and/or Flash Drive of the film. Both NTSC and PAL (preferable) are ok.

Q. What is Travelling KIMFF?

Every year a specially curated package of films including the best of KIMFF, travels to the Nepali hinterland to promote intercultural dialogue and enhance audio-visual literacy among viewers. Thousands of people in the interiors benefit from the screenings who otherwise would not have the opportunity to see the films.

Q. How do I travel to Kathmandu?

If you are from other than India, do take a ticket to Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu. Taxis are available at the airport to reach your destination.
If you are from India, do travel in a public bus (you can hire vehicles if you want) either from Bhairahawa or Birgunj. You can reach Kathmandu after 8 hours. You can also arrive in Kathmandu through air.
