About the filmmaker.
Kalani Gacon is an emerging filmmaker from the small, beautiful, misty town of Katoomba, Australia who tells the stories of disappearing cultures, people’s dreams, and the frictions of life facing human beings in the changing world. He has worked across four continents in search of stories that touch the heart. He spent his early career working in TV and News at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), before working on top productions in Vancouver. Kalani has spent the past 6 years living and working in Nepal as a social worker and filmmaker. In 2015 he directed and produced Bhukampa, a hybrid documentary about the earthquakes told from the perspectives of children. The impact campaign the film led greatly improved the lives of the participants. His 2019 feature-documentary Journey to the Centre of the Heart explored outward migration from Nepal and inward migration of foreigners to Nepal.
Kalani works intuitively with established actor and non-actors to create authentic, powerful film experiences, often mixing fiction and non-fiction together in the same timeline to create magic.
