The Disappearance of Janusz Klarner is a found footage documentary about the filmmaker’s uncle, a member of the first Polish expedition to the Himalayas. In 1939, Janusz Klarner reached the summit of Nanda Devi East. Everything that followed seemed to be a consequence of this act. The avalanche of events haunts the hero’s memories like a terrible dream. A broken taboo is not easily forgotten in a country reborn after war in the new communist order. This film has been awarded and screened at festivals in Poland, the Trento Film Festival, the Berg Film Tegernsee, and the Georgia International Student film Festival. It premiered at the 2021 Warsaw International Film Festival.
